The all-on-4 procedure is a modern surgical treatment developed by Dr. Paulo Malo for the total rehabilitation of edentulous patients. It´s a perfect solution for people who have few or no teeth; the name stands for “all teeth supported on 4 dental implants”. It´s a life-changing treatment, I cannot describe the joy we´ve seen in our patient´s faces when they gaze upon the mirror and look at their new, white, bright smile.
But, why would you choose an All-on-4 treatment over other solutions?
The all-on-4 procedure is less invasive than other permanent solutions
Other permanent solutions use more implants to get the same results; while you might think that more means better, that’s not necessarily true. With an all-on-4 treatment the dentist uses only 4 implants placed in very specific angles; thanks to those angles, you end up with four stable pillars that provide the same stability and impact absorption than regular implants.
What this means is that an All-on-4 treatment will require less work overall. On the other hand, another downside of traditional procedures is that sometimes the patient may need a bone graft if there is not enough bone to support all the implants. That means that traditional methods requires weeks and even months of work as the dentist has to give time for your body to heal before going forward. On the other side, you can get an All-on-4 in a single visit; for that reason, it’s more cost effective.
They feel like real teeth
Another way to treat an edentulous patient is with a removable solution such as bridges or removable dentures; but don’t be hasty, although cheaper, there are some unpleasing side-effects.
For example, removable dentures require constant care, you have to take them out and clean them at least once a day; you shouldn’t sleep with them, and you might feel uncomfortable when eating hard food. Additionally, studies have shown that temporary solutions are related to bone loss.
The success rate is amazingly high
Studies have shown that all-on-4 has a success rate of 97% in a 10-year lifespan; with no noticeable side-effects, or degradation of either the bone or the implants. Is something should motivate you to go forward with this procedure it’s the fact that it’s a solution that’s going to last a lifetime.
It’s extremely easy to maintain
All-on-4s are just like regular teeth, you can eat anything you want, and the only thing you have to do is brush, like you normally would. It is that simple.
