Welcome back my friends, today we are going to talk about food. You surely have heard the saying that you are what you eat, the same goes for your teeth. Do not misunderstand this article as a fitness guide, our goal here is to improve your teeth health and avoid dental diseases. Losing weight is a whole different game and you should seek professional help if that is your goal.

In the meantime, let’s see how to add food to our dental hygiene. For starts there are many foods and drinks to add to your diet and others that needs to be cut down.  One key word is moderation, abusing any food or drink could result in bad teeth. So keep these things in mind when reading ahead.

Food that is good for your teeth

There are several foods that are good for your teeth. Basically a balanced diet is good for your teeth, because you get all the nutrients needed for healthy teeth. I want to start by saying protein is vital for your teeth health, so if you are vegan, vegetarian you want to add that to your diet. Some grains and beans have protein too so it should not be impossible to add that to your diet.

Calcium is important too, it makes our bones stronger. Cheese is one common food we can find everywhere to supply calcium to our teeth. DO not sleep on veggies and fruits, they are also really good for your health. They contain water among other vitamins and nutrients that will help you smile shine through.

Remember, balance, that is what will help you teeth to look amazing in the end. Try to cut down on fat and sugar which are really bad in excess. We will list foods to avoid later, so stay tune.

Drinks that are good for your smile

This is really easy, the more natural the drink, the better. Water of course it will be the best for your dental health. This is because hydration helps your body to produce more saliva. And saliva helps cleaning your teeth naturally. What this means is that with more saliva your teeth will be protected against bacteria and germs.

We talked above about a balanced diet and nutrients. When we talk about drink you can get lots of vitamins dirking fruit’s juice. The more natural the better, the thing with processed juice is that they tend to be artificial or add lots of sugar. Some of the best fruits I can recommend are watermelon, melon, orange, strawberry, mango and pineapple.

Share below in the comments what is your favorite juice, I love to drink fruit juices because they calm that sweet craving I get a lot when working at the office.

Now let’s talk about calcium. The best way to ge is by drinking milk. Drinking at least one glass of milk a day can help a ton for making your teeth healthy and stronger. Do not ingest more than that or you will be at the risk of suffering calcification on your teeth or kidney’s stones. The key is balance and moderation, guys!

What food is bad to your teeth, what to avoid

We have talked about what is good for your dental health, now let’s list the bad stuff for your teeth. I know sweets and candies are really tasty, but sadly it is not good for your teeth. Sugar can rot your teeth and cause cavities which bring lots of pain. I am not saying that you should quit sugar for life, just try to consume it less.

The same goes for drinks, sodas and artificial beverage have lots of colorants and sugar. They can stain your teeth really bad making them yellow. The same goes for alcohol and coffee, they are really enjoyable but in large amounts they can wreck your smile. Keep it at minimum and do not over extend, it will be your teeth’s end.

Other good habits

Now I want to make a quick reminder that a good dental hygiene is also necessary in order to keep your teeth healthy. It does not matter if you eat right if you do not take proper care of your teeth. Brush your teeth at least 3 times a day, after every meal. After that, use dental floss to clean between your teeth and rinse with mouthwash to keep everything fresh.

With a solid dental hygiene routine you can clean your teeth good and avoid dental diseases and stains. That should be your other rule besides balance and moderation, dental hygiene. Also in order to have a perfect smile you should visit a dentist twice a year, more on that later too.

One final tip I can share with you is chewing gum. This may sound strange at first but hear me out. Chewing gum stimulates and creates more saliva for your teeth. I stated above how import it is for your dental health so you should not sleep on that. What I do suggest personally is to chew sugarless gum, it is way healthier and your teeth won’t suffer.

Diet complemented with a dentist

Now that you have the basics for a good diet for your teeth and a solid dental hygiene routine you need dentists. Scheduling an appointment with a dentist every 6 months will help you get the perfect smile. Cleaning and check ups reduce dental diseases, avoiding many troubles and pain in the long run.
