The truth is that the loss of the teeth is not a direct consequence of aging, but it is, without doubt, a common scenario faced by the population more mature. The loss of dental pieces, is mainly due to: tooth decay, gum disease not treated nor controlled, beatings, congenital absence, and due to grit my teeth for a long period (bruxism).

There are various ways to restore the missing teeth between them we find:

dental implants vs bridgeTotal Hip Replacement: It is also known as complete dentition, or dentures. This corresponds to a plate that replaces all of the teeth, when they have lost all their teeth, either the upper or lower jaw (or both). These prostheses are a removable device; and when you replace the upper teeth, is adjusted through the palate; whereas when replaces the lower teeth, it is a horseshoe-shaped, made to measure, which is pasted in lower gum, allowing the movement of the tongue.

  • Partial Denture: these are used when one or more of the teeth have been lost. Like the previous ones, are removable and are adhered, usually through a metal structure, so that where there is no tooth replicates the form of this. This type of dentures are made to measure in a dental laboratory, then to take impressions of your mouth.

  • Bridges: it is a long-term solution to permanent, non-removable. This option can be used when there are still natural teeth that can withstand this bridge; so that healthy teeth are converted in the anchor points to a series of crowns connected covering the space created by the or lost teeth.

  • Dental Implants: this is the option that most resembles the function of natural teeth. The implants are made of metal, and placed in the maxillary bone, and the crowns are joined to this root of metal. These implants can restore a single tooth, but you can also make a partial restoration and even complete mouth.

While all correspond to very effective options to restore the loss of a tooth, the best option for each person will depend on the health of the gums and the bone tissue, it will also depend on the time in which you want to have your restoration, and finally, it will also depend on your budget.

It is important to know that when teeth are missing, it is not just a question of an aesthetic problem, the empty spaces may affect the ability to chew, speak, and even could affect the health of the neighboring teeth. In Deenty we recommend you speak with your dentist to discuss the pros and cons of each method, and in whole decide on the most appropriate solution for you.
