What are Partial Dentures?
Partial dentures are an artificial natural-looking replacement of missing teeth for your upper or lower jaw. They are generally made from acrylic and pieces of metal, which gives them strength and stability to support the chewing impact. A partial denture can be removable or fixed, depending on the needs and conditions of each patient.
It is called “partial” since it is designed to replace just a section of missing teeth and not all, which means that to be eligible for a partial denture you still need remaining teeth in good shape. Full dentures, or conventional dentures, cover the entire arch and are used when the patient doesn’t have remaining teeth to support the prosthesis. The dentist, after careful evaluation, determines what type of denture would be the best in each occasion.
