Many patients thing that with brushing their teeth is enough to get rid of it. this is false, because you need so much more to clean it from your beautiful smile. Before I forget I want you to invite you to read our other articles. In this blog we have tons of articles dedicated to dental hygiene and dental treatment. Most of them are available in Spanish too in case you are interested in learning the language too. It helps us a lot if you read some of them and give us some feedback. We love reading you guys and knowing what do you think about our content.
What is tartar?
It is a mineral that forms in the gum line formed by proteins, bacteria and other things. In other words it is a calculus that forms in your teeth and it is dangerous to leave it like that. If you do not practice a good dental hygiene, plaque and tartar will appear in your teeth. It can lead to a lot of dental diseases like caries, gingivitis and more. Ultimately it will lead to tooth loss in the worst case scenario.
It is easy to spot because you will see a yellow line below the teeth and above the gum line. It is not that easy to clean at home, in fact it is impossible. Never try to clean it by yourself. You can end up damaging your teeth and in an unfortunate accident. So it does not matter how much you brush your teeth afterwards or what product you use. The only way to remove it is by going to a professional dentist to help you.
How to clean tartar
As stated above you cannot solve this at home. You need a good dental cleaning to remove all the tartar accumulated in your teeth. That is the main reason why you should schedule an appointment with a dentist every 6 months. Regular checkup and cleaning will help you avoid this problem. In fact, many patients who suffer from this do not go to the dentist periodically.
Regarding what the dentist use to clean your teeth it is pretty simple. It will depend on how much calcification your teeth have. It can suffice with just pressured water and the regular tools. Like a regular cleaning will be enough to solve the problem and leave your teeth clean. Other cases, more complicated will require other methods.
The most effective one is a tool that vibrates to remove all the calculus from your teeth. It vibrates so fast that it will not be hard to clean your teeth. It also uses water with pressure so it does not overheat and clean the way. In other cases, much harder, a deep cleaning will be needed to also clean your gum.
That way you will be saving your mouth from a gums disease and even periodontal disease. It is important that you make an appointment with your dentist yearly as we said before. I know most of you are reluctant to that idea because it is expensive in the US but not in Dental Solutions in Los Algodones, Mexico.

How to avoid tartar
To avoid the accumulation of tartar in your teeth you need to practice a good dental hygiene. Brush your teeth at least 3 times a day, especially after every meal. Use a soft bristle toothbrush to avoid damaging your tooth enamel and gums. The best technique to brush your teeth is with vertical strokes. You can complement it with horizontal and vertical motions too. Remember being slow and gentle to avoid damaging your teeth.
Brushing your teeth rapidly and aggressively will only cause damage in the precious spot mentioned above. Be careful and treat your teeth with care. After brushing use dental floss and mouthwash to finish up cleaning. Getting rid of the food debris stuck between your teeth is key to avoid tartar in your teeth. Follow this routine every day to maintain a good dental hygiene routine.
Another good way to avoid this problem is by watching your diet. As we mentioned in the beginning of the article, it is a calculus formation. What this means is that you may have been ingesting too much calcium. Dairy products have tons of calcium so you may need to tone it down. Opt for other vitamins and protein to follow a more balanced diet. Also, do not forget to drink lots of water to stay well hydrated. At least 8 glasses of water a day.
Saying goodbye to bad habits
On the other hand, quitting alcohol and cigarettes can help to avoid tartar. Because bacteria and germs help to its formation you need to keep your mouth clean. Smoking especially is really unhygienic for your dental health. Many patients with this problem tend to be heavy smokers so if you are in this spectrum it is a good idea to quit now.
That would be all for today, I hope you learned a lot from this article. Remember to let us know your thoughts down in the comments. See you next week with another awesome article and remember to take good care of your teeth. Bye!
